Subject: Devotional | December 20 | morning (full)
For the remainder of 2019, devotionals will have only a reading from the Psalms. On January 1, 2020, we will begin a new 3 year reading cycle with daily readings from the Psalms, New Testament, and Old Testament. Remind yourself that this morning marks another day to enjoy and glorify God. Use this email as you are able, in whole or in part. Call to PrayerSatisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. (Psalm 90:14) Opening PrayerAlmighty and most merciful God, we remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP 826) Confession of SinO Lord, we have not longed for your coming and your kingdom as we ought. Instead, clinging to the things of this world and counting them dear, we have grown callous to needs of the poor and downtrodden, the lonely and the suffering. We have not cried out for justice as we should. Nor have we cared about those who are without Christ and without hope in this world. We have been silent when we could have spoken and have lacked boldness in our witness. Lord, forgive us for our offenses. And grant that by the power of your Spirit we might live in light of your coming again. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. Take a moment to confess your sins, knowing that he hears you. Praying the PsalmsPsalm 45For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song. 1 My heart is stirred by a noble theme 2 You are the most excellent of men 3 Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one; 10 Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: 16 Your sons will take the place of your fathers; 17 I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; Prayers of IntercessionNeighborhood
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. BenedictionMay the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Corinthians 13:14) Wonder what your next step in spiritual formation is? Consider getting involved in a community group.
