Subject: Devotional | September 6 | morning (full)
Remind yourself that this morning marks another day to enjoy and glorify God. Use this email as you are able, in whole or in part. Call to PrayerLet the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. (Psalm 143:8) Opening PrayerHeavenly Father, in your Word you have given us a vision of that holy City to which the nations of the world bring their glory: Behold and visit, we pray, the cities of the earth. Renew the ties of mutual regard which form our civic life. Send us honest and able leaders. Enable us to eliminate poverty, prejudice, and oppression, that peace may prevail with righteousness, and justice with order, and that men and women from different cultures and with differing talents may find with one another the fulfillment of their humanity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP 825) Confession of SinGracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a burden of guilt and shame. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image; through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Take a moment to confess your sins, knowing that he hears you. Praying the PsalmsPsalm 69For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. 1 Save me, O God, 5 You, God, know my folly; 6 Lord, the Lord Almighty, 13 But I pray to you, Lord, 16 Answer me, Lord, out of the goodness of your love; 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; 22 May the table set before them become a snare; 29 But as for me, afflicted and in pain— 30 I will praise God’s name in song 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, New Testament ReadingThe writer of Hebrews was concerned that his readers were still dealing with external practices instead of being aware of their righteousness in Jesus Christ. Hebrews proclaims that the Jewish law, the prophets, and the Biblical narrative of the Old Testament all point to and are fulfilled in Christ. As you read the passage, meditate on what it tells you about your own sin and need for God's grace. Hebrews 1God’s Final Word: His Son 1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. The Son Superior to Angels 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; Or again, “I will be his Father, 6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” “He makes his angels spirits, 8 But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; 10 He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, 13 To which of the angels did God ever say, “Sit at my right hand Prayers of IntercessionNeighborhood
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. BenedictionMay the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
