Opening Prayer

Almighty and eternal God, draw our hearts to you, guide our minds, fill our imaginations, control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated unto you; and then use us as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. (BCP 832)

Scripture Reading

John 17:1-5

1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Reflection Questions

1. In the passage, Jesus is praying to the Father. What is Jesus praying for?

2. Jesus tells us the reason why he came: to glorify the Father by giving eternal life to human beings. How do we receive this eternal life?

3. What do we learn in this passage that we should thank God for?

Kid’s Catechism #46

Q: How, then, can you be saved?
A: By the Lord Jesus Christ through the covenant of grace.

Prayer of Intercession

Gospel Identity

  • Jesus, thank you for all of our blessings. Thank you for dying for us so we can have eternal life. We pray that we will continue to grow closer to you and follow your ways.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
