Take a moment to slow down and turn your thoughts to God. Use this email as you are able, in whole or in part. Call to PrayerThe city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. (Revelation 21:23-24) Opening PrayerLook with mercy, O God our Father, on all whose increasing years bring them weakness, distress, or isolation. Provide for them homes of dignity and peace; give them understanding helpers, and the willingness to accept help; and, as their strength diminishes, increase their faith and their assurance of your love. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP 830) Confession of SinEternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and die in faith. Forgive our indifference to your will. You have commanded us to speak, but we have been silent. You have called us to do what is just, but we have been idle. You have called us to live faithfully, but we have been afraid. Have mercy on us and forgive us. Keep before us faithful people to follow so that living with courage and love, we may work for and inherit the kingdom promised in Jesus Christ. Amen. Think back through your day and confess any sinful attitudes, words, or actions. Praying the PsalmsPsalm 1141 When Israel came out of Egypt, 3 The sea looked and fled, 5 Why was it, sea, that you fled? 7 Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, Old Testament ReadingThe most quoted prophet in the New Testament, Isaiah prepared the divided nations of Judah and Israel for the coming invasion by Assyria. There are so many prophecies about Jesus Christ in this book that Augustine called it “the fifth Gospel.” Isaiah gives us insight into the fall of a nation and the faithfulness of God in the midst of that decline. As you read and reflect on this passage, prayerfully consider how God might be revealing himself to you to this evening. Isaiah 49The Servant of the Lord 1 Listen to me, you islands; 5 And now the Lord says— 7 This is what the Lord says— Restoration of Israel 8 This is what the Lord says: “In the time of my favor I will answer you, “They will feed beside the roads 13 Shout for joy, you heavens; 14 But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, 15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast 19 “Though you were ruined and made desolate 22 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I will beckon to the nations, 24 Can plunder be taken from warriors, 25 But this is what the Lord says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, Prayers of ThanksgivingRelationships
Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen. (BCP 70) BenedictionSovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.
