Hello ,

Yesterday at our worship services, we introduced the newest members of our Diaconate. It will likely be the most public attention they will receive as the majority of their work is hidden from view—counseling and providing for those in our congregation that face a myriad of needs. Their work reminds me of an essay written years ago by theologian B.B. Warfield on the emotional life of Jesus, who commented as follows:

"The emotion which we should naturally expect to find most frequently attributed to Jesus, whose whole life was a mission of mercy, and whose ministry was so marked by deeds of benevolence that it was summed up in the memory of his followers as a going through the land ‘doing good’ (Acts 10:38), is no doubt ‘compassion.'"

The men and women who serve through the Diaconate demonstrate what it means to follow Jesus as they "go through the land" of our congregation "doing good" far from the spotlight. And yet as they follow Jesus in this way, they are showcasing the power of the Kingdom as they put the needs of others ahead of their own. Please pray for our Diaconate team, and may we follow in their footsteps to bring the mercy and compassion of Jesus to those around us.

He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. —Micah 6:8

In Christ,

In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; early in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. —Psalm 5:3

As we praise God for the new deacons and deaconesses at our congregation, join us in praying:

  • That God's mercy and compassion would be made known to those that are struggling within our congregation through the spiritual and practical care of the Diaconate
  • That God would strengthen and protect the Diaconate, and would guide each deek with wisdom and grace as they pour out God's compassion onto others
  • That God would deepen our assurance of his love for us through his mercy, so that we might extend mercy towards others in the places we live, work and play
